Building Inclusive, Resilient Cities: How Co-Creation is Transforming Urban Spaces in Prato

The GreenInCities project is built on a bottom-up approach, ensuring that no one is left behind—whether it's vulnerable communities or endangered urban species. At the core of this approach is the Co-Creation methodology, which involves stakeholders from all sectors to design and implement sustainable urban solutions. This methodology is vital for creating urban environments that are inclusive, resilient, and responsive to the diverse needs of the community.

THINGS, a key partner in the GreenInCities project, is an innovation-driven company that specialises in developing tools and methodologies for urban transformation. They are responsible for creating the foundational framework that drives the Co-Creation process, which is further explored in their work on the Initial Toolbox and Methodologies for LLs towards Implementation and Twinning. Their work is instrumental in shaping the integration of six guiding principles, including inclusivity, transparency, and ownership, that run through every phase of the project.

In Prato's pilot, these principles have fostered unprecedented collaboration between communities that have seldom worked together, paving the way for stronger social ties and a more integrated urban space. Through Co-Design and Co-Analysis workshops, stakeholders—from students to local institutions—have come together to tackle key challenges, such as accessibility, safety, and wellbeing. The methodology is already showing tangible results, creating a more connected and engaged community.
