What is Neurourbanism? Exploring the Intersection of Neuroscience and Urban Design

By Ideas for Change

In our ongoing efforts to create sustainable, resilient cities, the GreenInCities project is proud to collaborate with Neurolandscape to explore Neurourbanism — an innovative approach that integrates neuroscience and urban design to improve mental health and well-being in urban environments.

Neurolandscape's latest article sheds light on the NeuroUrbanism Assessment (NUA), a tool designed to help cities assess the impact of public spaces on mental health, emotions, and stress. As more people move to urban areas, with 75% of the global population expected to live in cities by 2050, the need for mental health-focused urban design has never been more critical.

Through GreenInCities pilots, the project is working to measure the effectiveness of public spaces in promoting well-being, emphasising the importance of biophilic design, urban interventions, and creating spaces that foster social connections and physical activity.
