GreenInCities at the New European Bauhaus Festival 2026

Creativity, innovation, and sustainability are about to collide across Europe! From June 9 to 13, 2026, the European Commission is hosting the New European Bauhaus (NEB) Festival. Rooted in the core values of "Beautiful, Sustainable, Together," the festival is a celebration of what citizens can accomplish when they join forces to make their communities more eco-friendly, inclusive, and beautiful. The GreenInCities project is proud to be part of this movement by hosting four distinct satellite events across Europe, alongside a presence in Brussels and Delft.

Discover Our Satellite Events

Our satellite events translate the NEB values into shared, place-based experiences. We focus on reconnecting people with nature, regaining a sense of belonging, and prioritising the inclusion of both vulnerable human groups and non-human stakeholders (local flora and fauna) through hands-on making, co-design, and citizen engagement.

Across four pilot cities, we are inviting locals to actively experience and co-create the NEB vision in their everyday surroundings:

Nova Gorica – "GreenInCities: Commons Garden"

Hosted by the University of Nova Gorica (UNG) and the Municipality of Nova Gorica (MONG), this event will gather projects and institutions active in the field of re-greening, biodiversity, and participation. Teenagers, children, and their families are invited to an intergenerational workshop to co-design and assemble small-scale sustainable prototypes. The day will also feature a basketball match, a community kitchen event, and a bingo with plants!

Date: Tuesday, June 9, 2026

Time: 12:00 – 19:00 (CEST)

Location: Nova Gorica, Slovenia

Target Audience: Teenagers (14-16 years), children, and their families

Matosinhos – "MOVES-IT Showcase: Building digital and sustainable neighbourhoods"

Hosted by the University of Porto (FCUP), the Municipality of Matosinhos (CMM), and IrRADIARE, this participatory event invites citizens to reflect on local urban challenges. It will feature keynote speeches by the municipality, a presentation of the Digital Neighbourhood Competition, and engagement activities including a panel discussion on participatory approaches and a co-creation workshop exploring inclusive design and habitat regeneration.

Date: Tuesday, June 9, 2026

Time: 15:00 - 19:00 (WEST)

Location: Matosinhos, Portugal

Target Audience: Teenagers, school students, and the local community

Birstonas – "GreenInCities: Nature Wisdom Circle"

Hosted by the Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) and the Birstonas Municipality (BSA), this dedicated co-analysis and co-design workshop will engage senior citizens to explore nature-based solutions for the Nemunas river embankment. Using digital twinning and a hands-on approach, participants will conceptualise a habitat for the local merganser bird alongside comfortable places for humans, visualising the coexistence of birds and humans.

Date: Thursday, June 11, 2026

Time: 10:00 – 13:00 (CEST)

Location: Nemunas river embankment, Birštonas, Lithuania

Target Audience: Senior citizens / elderly

Barcelona – "GreenInCities: A network of living cities"

Hosted by the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC), the Fab City Foundation (FCF), and the Barcelona Metropolitan Strategic Plan (PEMB), this interactive, family-friendly day invites participants into the nature lab where children can lead the way to discover nature and celebrate non-humans. Visitors will explore circular practices through playful formats and can even build something circular to take home. A highlight will be the "Tactile Urbanism" installation—an interactive urban game with sensor-equipped boxes responding to touch, light, and sound.

Date: Saturday, June 13, 2026

Time: 11:00 – 14:00 (CEST)

Location: IAAC, Carrer de Pujades, 102, Barcelona, Spain

Target Audience: Families, children, and the general public

Beyond the Satellite Events: Brussels & Delft

In addition to our local activities, GreenInCities will be represented at the NEB Fair in Brussels, where the Fab City Foundation (FCF) will have a booth to share our initiatives. Furthermore, we will participate in the "Minority Report" Satellite Event in Delft, joining the "Nature, Buildings & Identity" session on June 9th at the Co-creation Centre of The Green Village.
